Having to deal with the heartbreak of homelessness, or the risk of becoming homeless, is a unique stress that weighs heavily on more families in our community than ever before. Recently, Josie C. Garcia, on behalf of her Joy & Care-Giving Foundation, has made a pledge to help at least one individual who finds him or herself in such dire circumstances.
At the October meeting of the Adult and Community Education Advisory Council at Flagler Technical Institute (FTI), Ms. Garcia announced that she will be awarding a special scholarship to help a homeless at-risk individual to pursue career training at Flagler Technical Institute. Ms. Garcia has donated this scholarship in tribute to Ms. Veronica Thornton, Adult Education’s Make-It Take-It Program Manager, in appreciation for the outstanding work she has done to assist the Joy & Care-Giving Foundation to provide technology and quality education to students in the Philippines. Veronica’s efforts, sponsored by Adult and Community Education and the Flagler Rotary, have assisted Josie Garcia and the Joy & Care-Giving Foundation, in making a difference in the lives of Philippine children.
Adult and Community Education and Flagler Technical Institute commend Ms. Josie Garcia on her efforts to help people in need locally and globally, and appreciates that Ms. Garcia’s generous scholarship will assist a worthy individual to pursue his or her educational goal.
