Defining the Future

Many people with disabilities have contributed to our society in many areas, including the political leadership of Franklin Roosevelt, the scientific innovation of Stephen Hawking, and the music composition of Beethoven. People with disabilities will continue to define the future whether they be the next world leader, a returning veteran, your next-door neighbor, a family member or you.

The Transitions Program

The Employment Specialist, Job Coaches, VR Counselors, ESE teachers, vocational teachers and business partners will work together to address the IEP transition goals including but not limited to:

  • post secondary education
  • vocational training
  • employment and career training
  • career exploration
  • learning to use public transportation
  • life skills training
  • self advocacy skills training
  • job shadowing opportunities
  • ultimately paid employment

The Transitions School-to-Work Program will give students the ability to interact with age appropriate peers, and reach their potential as independent members of the community.

    A Little Background Information:

The Transitions School-to-Work Program offers career exploration for students with transition IEP goals through the enhancement and application of job readiness skills. The program provides students an opportunity to train in a career prep program at the Technical Center or at various job sites throughout the community. We utilize a ratio of no more than 4 students per trainer as well as small class sizes. Trainers and teachers observe and monitor their students’ ability levels and application of job readiness skills. A Job Coach will assist each student and help teach skills required for successful work experiences. Students are continuously evaluated in order to ensure goals for job readiness are met. Students must be between the ages of 16 and 22 years old. Students must be enrolled in Flagler County Schools.
